Hawker Stall Behind The Beach Club

It was lunch time again! “Apa mau makan Ros”. As usual, we asked each other where to have lunch. “Ayam goreng Pak Cik!”, Ros yelled with a big smile on her face.

Ros, my colleague who is a “die hard” fan of this fried chicken, suggested having our lunch at the hawker stall behind The Beach Club. Yup, she reminded us of it’s been long time we have not had lunch there. We always wanted to go there but we were too lazy to walk so far and that stall is always crowded with people during lunch time except Friday. And, it was Friday!
What is so special about this stall? It is the Ayam Goreng Berempah. A huge piece of chicken only costs RM2.00. They also offer up to 20 types of dishes. If you go there from Monday to Thursday, you have to queue up before 12:30pm. If not, the fried chicken will be all finished off.
Let me elaborate more about this Ayam Goreng Berempah. This chicken was very well marinated with ginger, garlic, special seasoning from Pak Cik and coated with spices mixed with flour and egg. That’s why the chicken was so crispy and flavourful. I don’t know how Pak Cik can make the fried chicken meat be crispy yet tender and juiciness still retains in the meat. Even I had the chicken breast, the meat was not tough at all. I found the bone was crispy too and I chewed it all. Yummy!
I decided to get 1 piece for 豪豪 to try. He tried and said it’s better than KFC. Hmm, I felt the same way too.

Food Foundry @ Happy Mansion PJ 17

My tummy was groaning for food after crawling on bed for 2 hours. First thing flashed into my mind was the Mille Crepe that I always wanted to try. I've read about this dessert from many blogs and the comments are all excellent. So, we decided to give it a try today. When I arrived, I was so surprised that the restaurant is actually facing a "pangsapuri look" flat, at the ground floor of a shop house lot. No air-con here but yet it was breezy with the powerful ceiling fan.

The ambiance
Nothing special on the drink menu. So, I ordered Nestle Ice Peach Tea which was slightly sweet to me. We chose Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab with Spicy Dressing as appetizer (RM8.90), Chicken Cordon Bleu (RM15.90) and Braised Lamb Shank (RM25.90) as our main. Not too long to wait for the food, here came the dishes. Looked appetizing. I expected the soft shell crab to be crispy like tempura but it turned out soft and doughy.

Two big pieces of chicken meat rolled with cheese and ham. Accompanied with creamy white sauce and sautéed vegetables (carrot, eggplant, zucchini and sliced mushroom). I found the meat was a bit bland, thought it could be better with smoke cheddar. However, it was good to eat with the sauce and veggies.

The hero of the day was the braised lamb shank. Looked at the big chunk of juicy meat with generous gravy and the same sautéed vegetables, I wondered whether I could finish the dish. When I had the first bite, my tongue receptor sent the signal to my brain and analyzed. Wow, it was so tender and juicy! The meat was not chewy at all!It went perfectly with the brown sauce full of diced carrot. At first I thought the gravy was too much for the portion, I've not wasted any single drop of gravy at the end. My philosophy is to respect the chef's creation is never leave a single drop of food on plate! I always try to practice it unless the food really tastes horrible.

With full stomach, we still wanted to try the famous Mille Crepe (RM9.00). There were 3 flavours strawberry, vanilla and chocolate. Being a chocolate lover, we had the chocolate one. As its name, this dessert is made of multilayer of crepes layered with flavoured cream. The thin layers of crepes looked like rice paper to me. The QQ texture liked konjac jelly with rich cream. Yummy...not too rich or sweet and it was good when it was served cold.

This heavy lunch was definitely satisfying both of us before we heading to The Curve for our upcoming Phuket trip research in magazine store. P/S: These photos were taken by my handphone. Not bad huh!
